Which IP protocol family Checkmk uses to contact this host. Choosing one of the IP options asserts that the host <i>has</i> an address of that family: Checkmk resolves the host name via DNS unless an explicit IP address is configured. If neither is available, service discovery and monitoring of this host will fail.<br><br><b>No IP:</b><br>The host has no network address at all. Choose this for hosts that are monitored without being contacted directly, for example via piggyback data from another host, a push agent, an individual program call, or a special agent that authenticates against an external API. No name resolution is attempted for such a host, and its host check reports UP by default.
